UNC Down Syndrome Clinic – Opening Early 2025
We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership between North Carolina Down Syndrome Alliance (NCDSA) and the University of North Carolina (UNC) Health to establish the UNC Down Syndrome Program! This comprehensive program will unite top-tier expertise and offer specialized medical care for individuals with Down syndrome, from infancy through adulthood, to enhance their health and well-being. NCDSA Board Member, Dr. Kate Westmoreland, a UNC pediatrician and the mother of a 2-year-old with Down syndrome, is spearheading this initiative along with NCDSA leadership.
In the coming months, we will share more details regarding this multidisciplinary clinic. At NCDSA, we recognize the critical importance of comprehensive and expert medical care for individuals with Down syndrome. To support the successful launch of this clinic, NCDSA, through the support of generous donors, is funding the UNC Down Syndrome Program Nurse Clinic Coordinator who will play a pivotal role in both clinic operations and providing resources, information, and support for families.
- This program will serve both children and adults.
- The clinic is not intended to replace a patient’s Primary Care Provider.
- It is a multidisciplinary clinic that patients will visit as needed for coordinated specialty care.
- The clinic and NCDSA will help support Primary Care Providers through resources, literature, trainings, and more.
- We do not yet have a specific opening date for the clinic and will share more information as soon as possible.
- We are not yet able to schedule appointments or answer phone inquiries.
- We will be organizing focus groups to gather valuable input for the clinic, so please watch for emails from NCDSA inviting you to participate.
- If you know someone who would be a great fit for the UNC Down Syndrome Clinic as the RN Nursing Coordinator, please share the job posting with them. https://jobs.unchealthcare.org/jobs/15077560-rn-nursing-coordinator-down-syndrome-clinic
